Some of you may not be old enough to remember the tune "Matchmaker" from Fiddler on the Roof and quite frankly, it's only lately that I find myself humming it more often than I ever expected. Why, you ask? Well it seems like every week I receive calls from distressed pet owners needing to re-home their pets. Now I know this doesn't sit well with very many people however, here at Mountain Haven we pledge to be non-judgmental and to only keep the pet in mind and not the circumstance. Let's be honest, we have all had some life changes happen to us that have left us with difficult decisions and changes we never saw coming, right? Well that being the case, I am proud to say that we offer Match-making services. Yep, you heard that correctly, Matchmaking. No, we can't find you the perfect life partner of the two legged kind, but we go out of our way to find the best four-legged matches possible. There are two ways our Match-making goes:
#1: You Need to Rehome a Pet:
We receive a call for a pet that needs to be re-homed. We ask for the details, and then ask various questions about the pet and request photos. Then we let folks know about the wonderful pet via social media and other postings, word of mouth, reach out to our contacts. Make contacts, arrange meet and greets and hope it's a match, if not, we keep on advocating for the pet until the right match comes along.
#2: You are Looking for a Pet:
Tell us what would be an ideal pet for your life. Complete our adoption application and if we have a Pet needing a new home we work on getting a meet and greet done. If we don't already have a Pet needing a home, or what we have isn't what works for you, we keep you on file for when the calls come in for re-homing and we reach back out to you.
Our goal is simple and at the present time the best way we do this is for the Pet to go from one loving home directly into the waiting arms of another loving home without ever having to surrender the pet to our facility (which is currently under construction - more on that later - don't worry, it's all good!).
Quite a bit of time and effort is put into the Matchmaking process and although there is no set fee for this service, we would greatly appreciate any donation either party can afford for all of the networking efforts made. Mountain Haven isn't publicly funded, so every little bit is most appreciated.
For instance, today we have a wonderful Shepherd/lab mix, Mochi who is looking for his new home as soon as possible. This loving, funny and sweet fella is young and has so much to give to anyone who is looking to add a new family member to their life. At only 10 months old, Mochi is a work in progress, willing to please and love YOU.
How's that for a little matchmaking - just in time for Valentine's Day!!! Love is in the Air - uh oh, another musical theme sure to be my "ear worm" of the day!
